Philippine Air Force Deploys Helicopters in Response to Massive Tondo Fire

Tondo, Manila – August 6, 2025
A massive fire broke out early Wednesday in Barangay 105, Tondo, Manila, displacing hundreds of families and prompting an immediate multi-agency response, including aerial support from the Philippine Air Force (PAF).

In coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and local disaster response units, the PAF deployed several air assets to contain the fast-spreading blaze and support evacuation and relief efforts.

From the 505th Search and Rescue Group, a Huey II helicopter flew 33 aerial water drop sorties over the affected area. The operation was reinforced by a PZL W-3A Sokol and an S-70i Black Hawk from the 205th Tactical Helicopter Wing, each conducting three sorties.

In total, the PAF completed 39 aerial firefighting missions in an effort to suppress the flames and prevent further damage to surrounding communities.

Officials report that the fire displaced hundreds of families, many of whom are now seeking temporary shelter and assistance. Relief efforts are ongoing.
