Dumaguete City is one of the few local government units (LGUs) in the country with a DENR-accredited and compliant waste treatment facility — a rare distinction in the region. In fact, it may be the only such facility in Negros Oriental.
Operated by a dedicated team and supervised by full-time on-site Sanitary Engineer Eula Berba, the facility has received multiple awards and is frequently visited by LGUs nationwide for benchmarking.
This initiative is part of Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo’s commitment to responsive and sustainable environmental stewardship. To further enhance operations, the city has acquired three new septic tank vacuum trucks, with seven more on the way. These upgrades will not only serve Dumaguete but also extend waste disposal services to nearby towns and even the island province of Siquijor.
