President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has already chosen the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to succeed General Rommel Francisco Marbil, whose extended term ends on June 7, 2025.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed that the President has made his decision, although the appointee’s name has not yet been made public. The official announcement is expected within the next two weeks.
While the identity of the next PNP chief remains confidential, several top-ranking officers are reportedly being considered:
- Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. – Deputy Chief for Administration
- Lt. Gen. Edgar Alan Okubo – Chief of the Directorial Staff
- Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III – Director, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)
- Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin – Director, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO)
President Marcos is reportedly looking for a highly qualified and experienced officer to ensure leadership stability and integrity within the PNP, especially in light of the upcoming 2025 national and local elections.
The chosen successor is expected to continue the reforms initiated by General Marbil. Updates will follow once the President officially announces the new PNP chief.
