Philippine Army Strengthens Support for Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Operations, Deepens Cooperation with AFP Northern Luzon and Western Commands
FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City — Philippine Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Antonio G. Nafarrete reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Operations (CADO) as he underscored stronger coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) and Western Command (WESCOM). This was highlighted during his visit to the Naval Detachment on Mavulis Island, Batanes, on September 10, 2025.
Lt. Gen. Nafarrete emphasized that the Army continues to sharpen its operational readiness and expand its role as a dependable primary force provider to NOLCOM and WESCOM. “As part of CADO, we are conducting large-scale training exercises such as the annual Combined Arms Training Exercise (CATEX) ‘Katihan,’” he said.
He added that the Army’s modernization thrust includes the integration of drone technology and other advanced systems into the force structure, supporting the organization’s shift towards external defense operations.
The Philippine Army is also boosting its force projection capabilities to protect the country’s territorial integrity and its 200-nautical mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). This effort is being carried out in close cooperation with the Philippine Navy and the Philippine Air Force. At the same time, the Army continues to invest in human capital development through innovative training programs, ensuring a professional and resilient force ready to secure the nation’s sovereignty.
