DUMAGUETE CITY — Thirty-seven Silliman University medical graduates are a step closer to practicing as doctors after all of them passed the October 2026 Physician Licensure Examination, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) reported.

The 37-of-37 result placed Silliman on PRC’s list of top-performing schools under Commission Resolution No. 1814, Series of 2024, in the category for schools with 25 to 49 examinees and a 100 percent passing rate.

PRC’s Performance of Schools report shows that 31 of the 37 were first-time takers and six were repeat examinees. All of them passed.

Silliman was the only school from Negros Oriental with examinees in this round of the exam.

Across the Visayas

For Visayas medical schools with at least five examinees, PRC’s figures show the following results (schools in alphabetical order):

  • 100% — 50 passers out of 50 examinees, Cebu Institute of Medicine

  • 100% — 100 passers out of 100 examinees, West Visayas State University (La Paz, Iloilo)

None of the exam’s top 10 placers came from a Visayas school.

The national picture

PRC said 4,165 of 4,447 examinees passed nationwide, or 93.66 percent, while two results were withheld. Maxine Francesco Gwyneth Cena Baculo of the University of Santo Tomas topped the exam at 95.50 percent.

The Board of Medicine gave the test on October 3, 4, 10 and 11 in 14 locations, including Cebu, Iloilo and Tacloban in the Visayas. Results came out on Thursday, October 15.

A repeat performance

According to the university, Silliman’s medical school first posted a perfect passing rate in 2010, when its first batch of graduates took the physician board exam.

The school is an academic unit of Silliman University, with Silliman University Medical Center as its partner hospital.

Passers may register with PRC and take their oath on dates the commission has yet to announce. Online registration for the professional ID and certificate of registration begins December 1, 2026, PRC said.
