Dancers in elaborate costumes filled the streets of Dumaguete City on the afternoon of Friday, October 16, 2026, as the Buglasan Festival 2026 Streetdancing Competition got underway on the second day of the festival.

According to the festival program published by Dumaguete.com, contingents assembled at 2:00 p.m. and the competition formally began at 3:00 p.m. The event is part of the 11-day Buglasan Festival 2026, running from October 15 to 25, under the theme “Different Stories. One Aspiration. One Negros Oriental.”

Costumed Contingents March Through the City

The BNNO field team documented the procession along the parade route, capturing a wide range of performance styles and costume concepts. Photographs show dancers in layered cream-and-gold costumes with beaded headdresses moving in synchronized formation, alongside a performer wearing an ornate carved, wood-toned circular headdress.

Other contingents featured dancers in orange body-painted costumes with flame-shaped headdresses, and a performer dressed in a green-and-yellow floral ballgown topped with a golden sun crown. Additional groups appeared in woven grass-skirt costumes and rooster-inspired outfits in gold, red, and green.

Spectators lined both sides of the street throughout the afternoon, according to BNNO field team observations on the ground.

Results of the streetdancing competition had not been announced at the time of writing, per the BNNO field report.

Police Issue Crowd Safety Reminders

With large crowds expected throughout the remaining festival days, the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office has issued public safety reminders for attendees. According to the advisory, parents are urged to photograph their children before leaving home and to place a name tag with a parent’s contact number in the child’s pocket in case of separation.

The police office also advises the public to keep a close watch on personal belongings and to avoid bringing expensive jewelry or large sums of cash to festival venues and parade routes.
