A fire broke out early Monday morning, October 19, 2026, at Building 3 of the Dumaguete Public Market, with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Dumaguete credited for rapidly suppressing the blaze and preventing it from spreading to neighboring stalls.

Initial information indicates that fire damage was limited to a single stall or store, according to BFP Dumaguete personnel at the scene. Some adjacent stalls sustained minor water damage incurred during the firefighting operation.

Fire Contained to One Stall in Building 3

The fire was reported in the early hours of Monday at Building 3 of the Dumaguete Public Market, one of the main commercial market structures in the city. BFP Dumaguete responded promptly, and their quick action was credited with containing the fire before it could spread further into the market complex.

According to initial reports from BFP Dumaguete, damage from the fire itself was confined to one stall. Neighboring stalls, while not burned, sustained minor water damage as a result of firefighting operations.

BFP Dumaguete Investigates Cause and Extent of Damage

As of this report, BFP Dumaguete personnel remain on-site conducting a post-fire investigation to determine the cause of the blaze. Fire investigators are also working to establish the estimated value of the damage sustained by the affected stall and any adjacent properties.

No cause has been officially identified, and no estimate of the monetary damage has been released, according to BFP Dumaguete. Further details are expected to follow as the investigation progresses.

No injuries have been reported in connection with the fire as of this filing.

This is a developing story. Breaking News Negros Oriental will provide updates as additional information becomes available from BFP Dumaguete.
