DUMAGUETE CITY — Silliman University placed ninth among Philippine universities and 4,415th in the world in the UNIRANKS World University Rankings 2027, according to the ranking body’s published profile of the school released on August 4, 2026.
The Dumaguete-based private university received an overall score of 50.97 out of 100 and ranked 1,886th in Asia, marking a climb of 468 places from its previous global standing of 4,883rd, when it scored 47.55.
Silliman Jumps 468 Places in One Year
The improvement from 4,883rd to 4,415th globally represents one of the more notable year-on-year gains for a Philippine institution in the UNIRANKS system, according to the ranking body’s published data.
UNIRANKS evaluates universities on 11 weighted indicators, each normalized on a scale of 0 to 100. The body notes that these scores reflect relative performance and should not be read as raw institutional percentages.
Highest and Lowest Indicator Scores
Silliman’s strongest indicator was awards and recognitions, where it scored 51.5. Its weakest was internationalization and diversity, where it scored 50.5. Both carry a weight of 5 percent in the overall score, according to UNIRANKS.
The two most heavily weighted indicators — student wellbeing and facilities, and academic and research performance, each at 15 percent — saw Silliman post 51.3 and 50.7, respectively.
The university scored 51.2 in quality of education and 51.0 in employability and career success, both weighted at 12 percent. Its institutional profile and capacity score stood at 51.1, while web impact and digital presence and student experience and satisfaction each registered 50.9. Local and international rankings scored 50.8, and digitalization and smart campus came in at 50.6.
Faculty-to-Student Ratio Among Detailed Strengths
At the sub-indicator level, Silliman’s best result was 56 out of 100 for faculty-to-student ratio and learning environment, a measure that falls under the student wellbeing and facilities category, according to UNIRANKS data.
Its weakest sub-indicator was AI, analytics and automation under the digitalization and smart campus category, where it scored 45 out of 100. The gap between its best and worst sub-indicator scores — 11 points — points to relative strength in traditional learning infrastructure and a comparative lag in emerging technology integration.
Result Consistent With QS Asia Rankings
The UNIRANKS result is consistent with Silliman’s standing in another major ranking system. In the 2026 QS World University Rankings: Asia, the university also placed ninth among 35 Philippine universities included in that edition, ranking 694th in the region.
The alignment across two independent ranking bodies reinforces Silliman’s position as one of the top ten universities in the Philippines by international measures.
