The Department of Justice (DOJ) formally opened the ninth branch of the DOJ Katarungan Office (DOJKO) in Zamboanga City on July 23, 2026, bringing free legal assistance to marginalized and vulnerable sectors across Region IX, also known as Western Mindanao. The office operates under the DOJ Action Center (DOJAC), which functions as the department’s frontline service arm for public legal concerns.
High-Level Officials Grace the Inauguration
The launch ceremony drew senior officials from both the national and local levels. DOJ Undersecretary Margarita N. Gutierrez, who has oversight responsibility for the DOJ Action Center, attended and delivered a message on behalf of the department. Region IX Regional Prosecutor Dennis F. Before the office officially opened its doors to the public, an orientation session was conducted for newly assigned DOJAC personnel in Region IX. Administrative Assistant V Marifi N. Reyes facilitated the briefing, covering administrative procedures, standard operational workflows, and client intake protocols. The session was aimed at ensuring that the local team is fully equipped to handle public inquiries, process requests efficiently, and route concerns to the appropriate units for action.
The DOJ noted that the launch was organized as a joint undertaking between the DOJAC Main Office and the National Prosecution Service of Region IX, reflecting coordination across the department’s divisions in bringing the project to fruition.
