Reasons for the Power Interruption: Road Widening and Safety Concerns
NORECO II stated that the primary reason for the scheduled power interruption is to facilitate the relocation of electrical poles. This relocation is essential to accommodate the ongoing DPWH road widening project in the affected areas. The road widening project aims to improve traffic flow and infrastructure, requiring the repositioning of existing utility poles to ensure safety and compliance with construction standards.
In addition to pole relocation, NORECO II will also be conducting vegetation clearing activities along power lines. Overgrown vegetation can pose a significant risk to electrical infrastructure, potentially causing power outages and safety hazards. By clearing vegetation, NORECO II aims to prevent tree branches and other plant matter from interfering with power lines, ensuring a more reliable and safer power supply.
Safety Guidelines and Precautions for Residents
NORECO II strongly advises member-customer-owners in the affected areas to take the following safety precautions during the power interruption:
- Turn off all electrical switches and appliances before the scheduled interruption. This will prevent potential damage to appliances and electrical systems when power is restored.
- After power is restored, wait for at least five minutes before switching on electrical switches and appliances. This will allow the power supply to stabilize and prevent overloading the electrical system.
- Consider lines as always energized. This is a general safety reminder, even when a specific power outage is scheduled, electrical lines can become unexpectedly energized.
These precautions are vital to protect appliances from power surges and ensure the safety of residents during and after the power restoration process.
NORECO II’s Commitment to Service and Reliability
NORECO II acknowledges the inconvenience caused by the scheduled power interruption and assures its member-customer-owners that all efforts will be made to complete the necessary works as quickly and efficiently as possible. NORECO II has stated that the work may be finished ahead of schedule, and power may be restored earlier than the projected time. However, the cooperative emphasizes the importance of always considering power lines as energized, regardless of the schedule.
Atty. Fe Marie D. Dicen-Tagle, General Manager of Negros Oriental II Electric Cooperative, approved the announcement, underscoring the cooperative’s commitment to transparency and proactive communication with its consumers. NORECO II encourages consumers with queries or concerns to contact their trunk line at (035) 225-7071 / 225-7072, mobile numbers 0917-322-4237 / 0908-864-1681, or via email at ogm@noreco2.com.ph.
Impact of Road Widening Projects on Utility Services
Road widening projects, while essential for improving infrastructure and traffic flow, often necessitate the relocation of utility services such as power lines, water pipes, and telecommunication cables. These relocations can lead to temporary service interruptions, impacting residents and businesses in the affected areas. Effective coordination between government agencies like the DPWH and utility providers like NORECO II is crucial to minimize disruptions and ensure the smooth implementation of infrastructure projects.
The DPWH road widening projects aim to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance connectivity within Negros Oriental. While these projects bring long-term benefits, temporary inconveniences are unavoidable. Timely communication from utility companies regarding scheduled service interruptions helps residents prepare and mitigate the impact on their daily lives.
Looking Ahead: Ensuring Reliable Power Supply in Negros Oriental
NORECO II’s proactive approach to infrastructure maintenance and upgrades is vital for ensuring a reliable power supply to its member-customer-owners. Regular maintenance activities, such as pole relocation and vegetation clearing, are essential to prevent outages and maintain the integrity of the electrical grid.
NORECO II is continuously working to improve its services and infrastructure. By investing in upgrades and embracing new technologies, NORECO II aims to provide a more reliable and efficient power supply to the communities it serves. Continued communication and collaboration with local government units and other stakeholders are essential for achieving these goals.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed about planned outages and other announcements from NORECO II through their official channels, including their Facebook page and website. By working together, NORECO II and its member-customer-owners can ensure a stable and reliable power supply for the future.
